The memorial for Sergeant David Baldwin was held today.
Pastor Brian Young officiated; sharing stories from Dave’s life and giving tribute to this well loved and respected Canyonite. Dave’s colleagues and family remembered Sergeant David Baldwin in front of thousands of law enforcement, emergency services personnel, and members of the public. Dave’s family made sure everybody knew the man he was, and that he’d want to be remembered with laughter, not tears. The memorial included the US honor flag, a gun salute, and a flyover in missing man formation.
Below is the local media coverage (as posted so far.) The CBS4 coverage comes closest to conveying the scale of the event, and the outpouring of respect and love for the man, however you had to be there to get the fullest sense of the moment.
Coal Creek Canyon Fire Department were honored to participate in the memorial and the subsequent procession. Both Wadsworth Boulevard and a section of I-70 were closed for the procession, with emergency lights as far as the eye could see. It was very moving to be part of hundreds of emergency services vehicles with the route lined with well-wishers and members of the public, many standing to attention and saluting. CCCFD participated with Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3 and Water Tender 2.
