Weather permitting, Coal Creek Fire will be training with North Colorado Med Evac helicopter service on Saturday, June 30th.
When medical evacuation is needed, Coal Creek Fire personnel request a chopper, prepare a landing zone (removing hazards, including wetting down dust), communicate coordinates, landmarks and conditions and become radio “ground contact” for the helicopter pilot. Coal Creek Fire transport patients to the landing zone and assist the flight crew in packaging the patient for transport.
Coal Creek Fire has preplanned multiple landing zones in the canyon, the school, station #2 and more.
If you notice medical helicopters flying over tomorrow it is likely for this training.
