Last night, at approximately 7:25pm, Coal Creek Fire was dispatched to a report of a vehicle fire in the vicinity of Hwy 72 & Plainview Rd. Being that the entirety of the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District lies within the Wildland/Urban Intermix, and compounded by the fact that we were under a Red Flag Warning, the incident was treated both as a vehicle fire and as a wildland fire.
Thirteen firefighters from three different stations responded on both structural firefighting engines to address the vehicle fire as well as brush trucks to ensure that extension into the surrounding grasslands was kept in check.
Once the vehicle fire was knocked down, wildland firefighters performed a grid search to ensure there were no undetected embers in nearby fields.
To all of the commuters who were delayed while we shut down Highway 72 as a safety precaution, thank you for your patience.
