Today’s funeral for Ken Jones was a truly moving memorial; to him, for his beautiful family and for the community; regional and fire.

From the firefighters lined up to salute the motorcade, to the couple of mile long procession of apparatus (engines, ambulances and more, from agencies all over the state, and beyond) … to the bagpipes, the final bell toll, and to memories from the family / friends / colleagues. A very emotional celebration of his life and service, and who he was. We can all take a lot from that celebration, and from what he taught through example.

By all reports, Ken Jones would’ve hated to be the center of attention, but he deserved the spotlight. Having given years of service and emergency response he epitomized the dedication to quiet service of a great firefighter. He will be missed by many, and Summit Fire & EMS will be at a loss without him. I’m confident they’ll find ways to carry his memory with them going forward, and keep Ken in their hearts & minds, and he’ll continue to be with them in their service.
