The recent warm/dry weather locally has increased the fire danger in Coal Creek Canyon. In recognition of this increased fire danger, Boulder County and Gilpin County have now implemented Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Jefferson County is not yet officially under Stage 1 restrictions, but obviously experiencing a similar increase in fire danger, so similar cautions are required. See details below.

As a reminder, Stage 1 does not preclude residents from having campfires on their private property if they comply with the campfire regulations detailed on our website. However, it does mean that campfires are illegal on all unmonitored public lands such as Winiger Ridge – the camping area on the north shore of Gross Reservoir.
