Higher temperatures and low moisture have increased the fire danger in our area, and as a result, the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District has entered Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Stage 1 Fire Restrictions have currently been enacted in Boulder County, Gilpin County, and the USDA Forest Service, with Jefferson County expected soon.

As a reminder, Stage 1 restrictions mean that no open burning will be allowed on public lands within the Coal Creek Canyon Fire Protection District. This includes the campgrounds on Winiger Ridge on the west side of Gross Reservoir. Acceptable open burning on private property within the CCCFPD is permitted when in full compliance with campfire requirements, although residents are urged to exercise a high degree of caution due to worsening fire danger conditions. A reminder on fireworks as we approach the 4th of July Holiday: if a firework explodes or leaves the ground it is illegal in the State of Colorado.

For a full description of what Stage 1 means, see the Boulder County Sheriff’s notice.
